Effective management of projects is the pivot around which the success or failure to deliver change is measured. It encompasses not only the organization of work into discrete streams of activity and individual tasks but the management of risk, cost and quality to ensure that what is delivered properly meets the defined business objectives.
We believe that projects should also include in their brief the formal management of benefits. Too little attention is paid post-delivery to measuring the flow of tangible and intangible benefits as the original project team moves on to other work. Our experience shows that measuring real benefits against defined criteria can be invaluable as a learning process for better management of future projects.
