Make change a success - engage your people

Despite the recent headlines surrounding major projects like the NHS patient record system and the West Coast Main Line franchise, by and large change-driven projects don’t "fail” in the sense that they are stopped completely after a great deal of money has been invested. However, it is a common perception that many projects aren’t successful in fully achieving their original time, budget, content and return on investment objectives.
 
A global survey by IBM of more than 1,500 practitioners across 21 industries found that in 59% of cases, projects missed at least one objective (44%) or failed completely (15%). Another survey of business executives by McKinsey found that only 30% of change programmes were a success and this figure had not improved in more than ten years since the previous survey.
