Poor business report writing: the (very big) elephant in the room

Report writing lies at the heart of every organization, yet it is one of the least understood and most poorly executed activities of management. This short paper is a call to action to consider the impact of bad business writing on the bottom line and to commit to doing something about it.

Business reports take many forms but good examples all share certain basic characteristics: clear objectives; relevance to the audience; logical structure; appropriate level of detail and incisive use of language. Where a report is a trigger for approval or further action, the recipient is able to act without the need for additional information.
